What The Distance Changes
The distance changes three things, and none of them affect the mezzanine floor itself. It changes how we schedule the job, whether our team stays overnight, and how we organise the site measure.
It doesn't change who builds it. Building a mezzanine floor comes down to a site measure, a set of drawings, a steel delivery and the installation, and the same team stays on site for the whole installation.

What A Sunshine Coast Job Usually Looks Like
Most enquiries from the Sunshine Coast come from businesses that have run out of floor space and don't want to move. Usually their lease makes moving expensive, and their warehouse has unused height.

How The Travel Is Priced, And Why You Can See It
The travel is shown as its own line on the quote. We do this on purpose, because if travel is hidden inside a price per square metre, you can't compare it fairly with a local quote.
That way you can see what the mezzanine floor costs and what the travel costs. If a local fabricator's total is lower, you can see exactly where the difference is.

Why Load Ratings Differ Between Quotes
A mezzanine rated for light storage and one rated for pallets of stock can look the same from above, but they are built very differently underneath. This is often where one quote comes in cheaper than another, and you don't want to find that out later.
That's why we ask what you plan to store up there before anything is drawn. The engineer sets the load rating to suit, and it's written on the drawings you keep.
Getting The Most From The Site Measure
This matters more on the Sunshine Coast than anywhere else we work. If a site measure on the Sunshine Coast turns up a problem, we may need a second trip, so we sort out as much as we can by phone first.

Four Things To Send Us First
Send us the clear span from wall to wall, the height to the lowest thing overhead, a photo down the length of the building, and what you plan to store upstairs. With those four, we can work out most of the design.
The lowest thing overhead is rarely the roof. It's usually a light, a sprinkler pipe, a duct or a roller door track, and that is what sets your headroom.
Two Things To Check First
Check whether your landlord will agree to structural work, and whether there is anything buried in the slab. Either can stop a job, and both are much cheaper to find out over the phone than on a site visit.

Do you have a Sunshine Coast office?
No. We're based on the Gold Coast. If you need someone who is always fifteen minutes away, we may not be the right fit.
My job is small. Should I still ask?
Yes, ask us, and we will give you a straight answer. On a single small platform, the travel is a big part of the cost and a local fabricator will usually be cheaper. If so, we will tell you.

Does a mezzanine floor on the Sunshine Coast need building approval?
Often, yes. The rules are set by Queensland, not by your local council. A small storage platform is sometimes exempt, but the stairs and guardrail usually mean it needs approval. A licensed building certifier makes the final decision.
We can manage the approval for you as a separate item on the quote, or give you the engineer certified drawings to handle it yourself.
Does a Sunshine Coast job take longer?
The installation itself doesn't take longer. Our team stays overnight instead of driving home each night, and we plan the job to need as few trips as possible. The main thing that affects the timeframe is certification: about a fortnight without it, and around six weeks with it.
Can you build a mezzanine in a leased warehouse up there?
Yes. Please sort it out with your landlord before we quote, because we plan a trip this far to be done once. Whether the mezzanine can be fixed to the slab, and whether it has to come out when the lease ends, both change the design.
